World Health Organization Collaborating Center



In July 2014, the Nursing School of Coimbra was designated a World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for Nursing Practice and Research.


In line with its terms of reference, its mission is:


  1. 1. To support WHO by conducting research and identifying models of good practice in nursing and midwifery.
  2. 2. On request of WHO, to provide technical assistance on transforming health professionals education and training in support of the European strategic directions for strengthening nursing and midwifery towards Health 2020 goals and beyond.
  3. 3. To participate in jointly planned WHO meetings and training courses, promote, translate and disseminate WHO documents.
