World Health Organization Collaborating Center



The Nursing School of Coimbra was designated by the World Health Organization (WHO) in July 2014, for a period of four years, as Collaborating Center for Nursing Practice and Research.


The terms of reference are:


  1. 1. To conduct research and identify models of good practice in nursing and midwifery, contributing to the WHO European compendium;
  2. 2. To support the efforts of WHO technical programme in transforming health professions education and training in support of Health 2020 in the European Region;
  3. 3. To collaborate with WHO in organizing and hosting international meetings, training courses, workshops; disseminating and translating WHO documents.
